Volunteer at Abel
Is God leading you to volunteer? Over-commitment is a serious problem that we create for ourselves when we can't say "No" to a request for our time. You may have felt the pressure of working all day and attending meetings three or four nights in one week. It’s not a good feeling.
In guarding against this type of pressure it would be easy to avoid commitment of any kind - but there is a balance. Finding that balance takes a commitment to seek the Lord for His guidance in how our time is spent.
The ongoing ministry of the Abel Pregnancy Resource Center depends on volunteers who have responded to the leading of the Lord. There are many opportunities for services, and everyone who desires to help can find a way to do so.
The small amount of time you give (even as little as one hour per week) will accomplish much for eternal value.
"So be careful how you act, these are difficult days. Don't be fools; be wise; make the most of every opportunity you have for doing good. Don’t act thoughtlessly but try to find out and do whatever the Lord wants you to."
Ephesians 5:15-1
Prayer Partner: Pray for our patients and staff and the needs of the center. Our prayer partners play a primary and vital role as they hold forth this ministry before the throne of our mighty God!
Urgent Need - Deliver Medical Services to our Patients: We offer pregnancy testing and limited obstetrical ultrasound services to our patients. There is a need for registered nurses or an RDMS/persons trained in limited obstetrical ultrasound to help us deliver these services to our patients. We will train you to use your medical skills in the context of a pregnancy center. If you have a few hours a week that you could volunteer your skills, please let us know.
Patient Advocate for Women and Men Facing an Unplanned Pregnancy: Provide counsel and support for women and men who suspect, or are experiencing an unplanned pregnancy. Help them work through the various decisions they face. Educate them on the issues surrounding abortion, parenting and adoption. Support them with the love of Christ and establish a relationship for the duration of their pregnancy and beyond, when necessary. Involves a 2 to 4 hour shift once a week. All training is provided by Abel PRC.
Client Advocate for Women and Men Enrolled in the Earn While You Learn Program (EWYL): Assist dads and moms and/or expectant parents, during their time at the center, as they complete educational lessons on subjects, such as, parenting, pregnancy and healthy relationships. Clients earn mommy or daddy dollars through completing lessons and homework and keeping appointments. These dollars can then be used to "purchase" material items for their babies. The Client Advocate builds relationships with moms and dads in the program and plays a crucial role in helping them learn about parenthood and to provide for their baby's needs. (Training Provided)
Urgent Need - Become a Liaison between your Organization and the Abel PRC: A Liaison is our go-to person within an organization, church, business or club, that we can pass information from the Abel Center through to its membership, and who can encourage its membership to participate in upcoming Abel PRC events.
Provide Support Services:
- Housekeeping: A team of people who would clean the Center on a regular basis.
- Maintenance: Keep the facility in good working order.
Material Resources: Wash, sort, and organize donations of maternity clothes, baby clothes, furniture, and make-up layettes for new babies. Send out thank you notes for special donations.
-- Organize a maternity clothes/baby clothes/layette drive at your church.
-- Quilters, to make baby quilts of flannel as gifts to clients.
Serve as a Team Member on our Board of Directors: Serve a three year term in a leadership role helping to set policy and providing guidance and vision for the ministry. The board is a hands-on board and therefore provides opportunity to plan and implement fundraisers and special events.
